E P A " stresses the importance of protecting the marine environment in the GCC countries
general manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the E P A Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Hammoud Assubah stressed the importance of protecting the marine environment and finding suitable solutions to environmental issues in the GCC countries.
This came in a speech to general manager during the consultative meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council countries - environment and the Center for Marine Science and Fisheries in the United Kingdom, "Sivas
"Sheikh Abdullah ALAHMAD said : this meeting is in line with the objectives of the Gulf Cooperation Council in achieving development integration among member states, protecting the environment and preserving its natural resources in cooperation with Britain.
He pointed out that the Gulf countries, like other countries in the world, face many environmental issues need of solutions to overcome them and protect the environment, especially marine, which is a major source of food and vital economic life for the export of oil to the rest of the globe.
For his part, British Ambassador to Kuwait Michael Davenport said in a speech that the meeting aims to discuss ways of cooperation between the United Kingdom and the GCC countries to support the management of the marine environment in the Gulf and will come up with a road map for this cooperation.
He added that the meeting comes to develop the marine environmental cooperation mentioned in the joint statement issued by the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and British Prime Minister Theresa May at the GCC summit held in December 2016 in Bahrain.
Davenport said the meeting focused on four areas and priorities for cooperation: marine pollution, marine protected areas, invasive marine species and environmental objectives.
